Matti Kalkamo

The works of Kalkamo are three-dimensional scenes depicting the human existence. The sculptures of gloomy themes are handled with humor characteristic of him, sharp twists and shouts of his imagination and the logic of dreams. Materials vary from bronze and aluminium to recycled materials.

<i>"As an artist my main interest is studying human nature and human existence. I hope that the art I create challenges spectator’s imagination, sense of humour and the ways of thinking. The nature of the works I have done vary from mischievous to serious. My artworks are not based on any scientific doctrine about human beings. They are more like three-dimensional thoughts or viewpoints of the subject. Instead of pre-digested I prefer something more indigestible."</i>

Kalkamo yhdistää teoksissaan kuvanveiston erilaisia menetelmiä ja materiaaleja ennakkoluulottomasti. Veistoksien ja installaatioiden teemana on ihmisenä oleminen ja maailman kipupisteet.
